Adjudicate an Event

Each year, the MN Thespian Conference hosts several events where students can present their work and receive feedback and recognition.

We are looking for qualified professionals to help us provide that feedback and recognize those outstanding students!

Our Events

The National Individual Events Showcase (NIES): Students prepare and present pieces in both performance and technical areas. Adjudicators provide feedback on a general rubric and award points based on the student's work. Students who reach a certain level or higher earn the right to compete nationally and present their piece at NIES at the International Thespian Festival in June. Categories include Acting (monologue, duo scene, group scene), Musical Theatre (solo, duo, group), Scenic Design, Costume Design, Costume Construction, Lighting Design, Sound Design, Stage Management, Theatre Marketing, and Short Film.

The Chapter Select One Act Competition: Students prepare and present a one act play at the conference. Three adjudicators watch each production, provide feedback on a rubric, and rank and score the productions. The top production earns the right to represent Minnesota in the Chapter Select One Act Showcase at the International Thespian Festival in June. While this is similar to the MN State High School League competition, we do have slightly different rules which place more of an emphasis on students' work and performance.

Scholarship Auditions: Each year, MN Thespians awards $2000-3000 in scholarships to deserving senior Thespians. Interested students submit a resume and essay detailing their work and achievements, prepare and present an audition (performance or technical portfolio), and participate in an interview. Adjudicators review and read the essays, observe the audition presentation, and conduct the interview. The adjudicators then decide together the top 2-3 students who will receive the scholarships.
